ILITE Robotics Wins a World Championship!
Enormous CONGRATULATIONS to our ILITE Robotics Team. The FTC Team won first place at the World Championship. It was a grueling, long, competitive competition, and with focus and perseverance in the end ILITE won the honors. World-wide, there were 2907 teams from 16 countries. Way to go ILITE Robotics! Battlefield Celebrates "Star Students" - 5/19
Star Students have been acknowledged by a teacher, counselor, or administrator as a young person who, through his or her accomplishments and growth over the course of the year, has made success his or her choice. Battlefield will celebrate the success of this year’s Star Students with refreshments and a ceremony beginning at 9AM on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

BHS Student's Artwork Headed to Congress
Hope Martin's "Chiaroscuro" artwork (the art of capturing dramatic lighting) recently won first place from over 250 entrees from surrounding high schools in Fairfax and Prince William County. She was awarded $1,000.00 and her artwork will hang in the Hall of Congress for the next year along with all of the other Congressional winners from across the country.

PARENTS - If you have not created your own account on Parent Portal, or you need to edit your contact information, now is the time.
FRIDAY, 1 JUNE - Parent Portal Registrations and Online Contact Editing will be turned off and no further registration or edits will be accepted until after the new school year transition. NO NEW PARENT ACCOUNTS WILL BE CREATED UNTIL FALL.
MONDAY, 18 JUNE - All updates to Parent Portal will stop and no further data updates will be sent to SchoolFusion until Fall. Any pending parent registrations that have not been processed will be deleted and those parents will need to reapply next year.
Parent Portal WILL NOT be updated with Summer School Information and no Summer School Information will be sent to SchooolFusion.

NHS Tutoring
NHS tutoring takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:00 PM. On Tuesdays it is located in Room 1124 and on Thursdays it is located in Trailer 13. One Tuesday each month we do not have tutoring due to an all-member NHS meeting.
No appointment needed!
2012 Battlefield Summer Camps
Battlefield HS is proud to offer a variety of summer academic enrichment camps in the areas of Art / Mixed Media, Art / Print Making, Art / Visual Design, Computer Programming, Robotics, College Prep and SAT Math Review. Summer School Driver Education Program
Driver Education Range/Road In-Car Instruction will be offered at Battlefield High School for the summer of 2012. Registration forms are available in the front office, online or through your HPE II teacher. The cost for the summer program is $230. Students will be scheduled on a space available basis. Registration will be closed when all available time slots are filled. The final day for registering for the summer Range/Road Driver Education instruction will be June 1, 2012. Concussion Education Training for Summer 2012 and 2012-13
Concussion training is mandatory before trying out for any sport in a Prince William County School. Training sessions have been scheduled for all students who are NEW to PWCS as well as all rising 9th grade students. Sessions are available at all PWCS High Schools thruought Summer 2012 and the 2012-13 school year.

Number of Portable Classrooms to Decrease in 2012-13
The number of portable classrooms in use at Battlefield High School is scheduled to decrease for the 2012-13 school year. This change is due to several factors including projected future student enrollment and educational needs.

Free and Reduced Cost Opportunities
Through a partnership announced by the Virginia Department of Education, Comcast is now providing low-cost ($9.95 per month) Internet access to families who qualify for free lunch under the National School Lunch Program. Families who qualify may receive a notice about this program directly from PWCS School Food and Nutrition Services. School administrators will also receive brochures about the program from the Office of Community and Business Engagement to be displaced in schools.
